Everyone in the gambling industry knows that certain land-based gambling areas haven’t been doing so well. Each year seems to bring worse revenues than the year before in places like New Jersey, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before things go belly up. Online gambling was hoped to be at least a partial solution to this, and if you look at recent New Jersey gambling financials, it looks like it might be helping after seeing the results for the month of April. For the first time in 2025, there was a month that performed better this year than it did last year.
The Effects of These New Jersey Gambling Financials
The effects of these results are huge. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, known as the DGE for short, noted that this past month’s revenues were $235.9 million compared to $228.5 million for April of 2025. This increase of a little more than three percent is seen as a pretty big deal because land-based wins actually fell to $224.4 million which would have been a loss worth almost 2 percent. However, the Internet-based revenues of $11.4 million added enough to the land-based revenues to create an overall push above April of last year.
The Difference the Internet Makes
These figures show something that people have been hoping would happen: Internet revenues were able to shore up overall revenue enough to produce a win over last year. People have been doubting the ability for the online games to do this because revenues weren’t as high as a number of experts suggested they could be, and the first quarter of 2025 was down 2.7 percent in revenues compared to the first quarter of 2025.
However, the online games have been growing each month as the state works out technical issues, and their revenues have been steadily increasing as a result. With the boost breaking the "better than last year" line in April, it’ll be very interesting to see how the online games pan out over the next few months and what direction this could take the industry.
